Animal rights activists made it past the barricades and attempted to rush the stage before being stopped by security at a Bernie Sanders rally in Oakland, Calif. on Monday.
Sanders was addressing his supporters at the Frank Ogawa Plaza when the activists attempted to make it to the podium. Video of the incident shows a member of Sanders' security team move between him and the protesters, who were stopped well short of the stage.
Security personnel then handcuffed and led away at least four protesters — one of them hauled off by the arms and legs — as the crowd chanted "Bernie!"
Within moments, Sanders was back at the mic.
"We don't get intimidated easily," he said.
"It was handled professionally by the Secret Service," Sanders' spokesman Michael Briggs told CNN.
The Vermont senator has been making several campaign stops in California as he continues his uphill battle to win enough delegates to wrest the Democratic presidential nomination from the front-runner, Hillary Clinton
A similar incident occurred in March when a man attempted to rush the stage at a Donald Trump rally in Ohio.
A Sanders rally was shut down when Black Lives Matter protesters took control of the microphone in Seattle last August. The incident took place before the candidate was provided with Secret Service protection.
